Last weekend Piranha Triathlon Club celebrated its ten year anniversary. The club was formerly known as Tsunami when it was founded in 2001 by Anna Frankland and Ray O’Neill.

There were over 100 guests in attendance at the award winning Dublin Restaurant, Fallon & Byrne, to celebrate the anniversary. Sean Kelly, pro cyclist was the keynote speaker for the evening and Mark Pollock, blind adventure athlete and past member of Piranha Triathlon Club, was amongst the special guests.

The club was set up to bring together people who shared the common interest of multisport. Piranha’s goal is to help members (from beginners to advanced levels) reach their health, fitness and competitive goals through the sport of triathlon. Triathlon is still relatively new to Ireland and is proving very popular with athletes of all levels and ability. The club welcomes people interested in any aspect of the sport. The Dublin based club has over 180 members and includes a beginner triathlete programme to all new members. Well-known members include three time Women’s National Champion Elena Maslova, and founding member, Anna Frankland medallist at the 2004 European Triathlon Championships.

“The club has grown from strength to strength over the last ten years. Our member base has increased significantly and we are delighted to be welcoming more beginner triathletes into our club. We are also thrilled to announce the launch of our brand new website www.piranhatri.com”, commented James Hoare, Chairman of Piranha Triathlon Club.
