Training 2013/2014
We are now well into race season and its really great to see so many Piranha’s out there racing hard and reaping the rewards from long months of training.
While most of you are focused on shaving seconds from your times your committee has been working away in the background looking into ways to capitalise on all the progress made this year particularly in terms of training to make next year a bumper year for Piranha. It is certainly shaping up to be a truly exciting year for Piranha as we will have our first Club Ironman championship race in Roth with nearly 50 members signed up already.
Our aim is to make sure that our members are getting the best training possible to meet their needs in the most cost effective way. We have listened hard throughout the year to all your constructive feedback and have used it to form what we believe to be a strong and focused approach for training in 2013/2014. We would like to take you through just some of initiatives to be implemented next year.
We heard the need for more focused longer term plans across all disciplines and as a whole. In response to this we are establishing the new role of Training Coordinator in the club. This role will develop and deliver yearly training plans for all levels within the club for the 2013/2014 Season beginning in October.
The plans will be based around the Clubs goals and initiatives, incorporating existing club training sessions and will be supported by regular presentations from the training Coordinator. The clubs training committee will work with the successful candidate to establish the Clubs goals and expectations. We hope this will provide a more focused approach to training for all our members. This role will replace the existing role of Head Coach. We plan to advertise in the near future for this role so please keep an eye out on the Piranha site/Triathlon Ireland Site for full details.
We have seen our numbers greatly increase over the past number of years to record highs. In response to this we asked our members to become more involved in the club training and we are delighted with the response we received – we now have an established network of assistant coaches across the club driving our training efforts forward.
This year we would like to capitalise further on that and nominate discipline specific captains across the club to assist the training committee in ensuring that training in each discipline is as good as it can be.
- Swim – Chris Farr
- Run – Niall McDonell
- Bike – Seeking nominations
Chris Farr and Niall McDonell have already stepped into the role of our Swim and Run captains but we are still seeking a Cycle Captain to help organise our cycle/spin efforts – any/all members who feel that they can support in these roles to contact the training committee
If you are in a position to manage any of these areas please let the training committee know, we would love your support.
We would also like to expand the training committee to incorporate a subcommittee of initiative specific volunteers who will work directly with the training committee. The reason for this is twofold: to facilitate a more even distribution of workloads and to ensure that the all areas of responsibility are covered sufficiently and no training officers are overstretched. So in addition to the existing 2 training committee members we are seeking volunteers to assist with the following areas:
- Warm Weather Training – Seeking nominations
- New to Triathlon- Seeking nominations
- Races and Time trials – Seeking nominations
- Ironman – Frank O’ Connor stepped into this role and has been doing great work to ensure next year’s club IM race in Roth is a massive success.
If you are in a position to manage any of these areas please let the training committee know, we would love your support. (training@piranhatri.com)
We are seeking to implement the above as soon as possible to allow for systems to be in place to coincide with the start of 2013 training session (October).
