So here we go again DCT 2014 !

As before there has been tons of work by many people done over the past 12 months since the last race. Some members are back to help for the 10th year, 5th year, 2nd year or like many of you for their first year. DCT has been voted race of the year in 2012 and 2013 and I would be a liar if I didn’t want to see it win 3 years in a row. A big part of this is the reputation Piranha Stewards have in the way they cheer and clap on all the competitors and this year I want to see this repeated. It’s no good you standing on the corner looking bored, I want you clapping on, every competitor especially the ones who are the life and soul of triathlon .

Thank you for your support so far , over 100 Piranha members will be there on race day and many others have helped in the run up to the event.
Please make sure you sign in where you will be given an Orange high glow Piranha logo ed t Shirt. PLEASE WEAR IT SO YOU CAN BE IDENTIFIED AS A STEWARD. If we have goodie bags left you will get one but competitors, sponsors, Supports ( Army/Garda) come first. Likewise the cycling jacket. If you are helping on Saturday please do not take either a goodie bag or jacket. These will be handed out after all competitors are signed in.

You will not be able to park at the Garda Boat Club this year as all parking spaces have been pre-allocated. A small number of head stewards will be able to park in GBC and they will get an email from me in advance so if you did not get this mail please park in UCD boat club. We will have someone on the gate with a list so please don’t chance your arm !
Breakfast is available at 6am. We also have a lunch for you ( sambo, Mars bar, Crisp). There will also be hot food at the start area after the race. Please make sure you eat as we have paid for it ! Tea / coffee is available free all day in the hall ( if it runs out tell the caterer and he will refill)

DCT is one of the biggest triathlons in the country. We have 1000 athletes 600 Olympic / 335 Super Sprint and 50 Vodafone Relay teams.

Every competitor is important and those at the back need more support. DCT is known for the good nature and support offered by the members and stewards. We all know how hard it is to race but it is also great to get support ANY SUPPORT ! so smile, clap, cheer, shout and ENJOY !! We also stay there until the last competitor is past you. We will have a sweeper following to inform you of last bike / last runner. We can then break down the course. Bring a black sack with you, clean up litter. When finished, all on Bike course go to finishline to help and all on run course go to start area to help.
Safety is our Priority for every competitor and supporter. Be nice, inform people (don’t preach) don’t lose your temper. Most of the public will not understand triathlon or the speed bikes go at. Look out for dogs off leads ( politely ask if they can be kept on one if near the bike course). Likewise look out for young kids running around near the bike or run course.

We will be sending out bulk text, Do NOT REPLY, these are just to inform you when the first swimmer / biker , last swimmer / biker / runner are on course etc.

First Aid lead is Caroline Curran…..make sure you have her mobile in case of any emergency

If you see drafting or littering take the athletes number and report it to a TO, if they get 3 reports of the same number they will issue a penalty. But be smart about this and don’t go overboard.
DCT has been Race of the Year in 2012 & 2013 and I want 3 in a row. A massive amount of work has gone into it to get us to this point so I need everyone to bring their A game, show up on time, know what they are doing and most of all ENJOY THE DAY.

If you are not sure what your A game is, have a listen to the attached and if that does not get you going nothing will !!!!!!!!!

Kind Regards,

Johnny
