DCT 2012 THANK YOU !
Well it’s over for another year and it seems like we have given the triathlon community an enjoyable, competitive and rewarding event. DCT’s reputation had been damaged slightly with the water quality issues in the past couple of years but it looks like we covered everything very well this year and hopefully we will not hear of anyone falling ill after the race. I feel the future of the race is secure and I think we will see it selling out earlier and earlier as the years go by as long as we keep the standards high. The race is a big event and while standing in transition after everyone had left and before I did the race briefing it hit me just how big this race is and how bloody well we run it ! It’s a monster and there is no way it could be run without the help of everyone involved. As Race director the buck stops with me and there is a ton of prelim work to be done but without the help and experience of others it would not be possible. It would be remiss of me if I did not thank everyone publicly so here goes
In no particular order …….
Rasher for all the design work on the race programme. Sharon McGuire for her incredible ability to get DCT into just about every paper. Gavin Mc Allister for setting up the photo shoot and other PR work. Simon Sheahan for re writing the briefing and organising the start line PA and music. Aishling, Caroline and Fiona who acted as the first Aid team and Aishling also got us the toothpaste for the goodie bag. Jane Ryan who organised the Water and with the help of Joanne W. the Powerade. Fiona Maloney who got us the hand wipes, sun cream and Soup.
Greg Campbell who lead the swim team, James H who lead the transition team, Ian Cassidy who lead the bike. Rory & Judy who lead the run team, Tadhg Sullivan & John Davie who lead the finish line team and Bernard & Kevin who lead the traffic team. Matt C who lead the registration team. Peter Coughlan who looked after all the timing and results. Thank you one and all for your support.
The future of the race depends on the members and as you can see from above many involved in the race are long standing members. A lot of new members who I hope will be with us for the next few years experienced their first DCT and we need some of them to step up and start to take on important roles on the DCT team. They need to buddy up with the head stewards and get to know the roll with the intention of taking on that roll in the future. This way we will have seem less transition of stewards. I only joined the club 4 years ago so there are no excuses ! If anyone is interested let me know. Also if you have any suggestions or ideas please do not be shy and get in touch with me or a committee member.
Thanks again to everyone listed and apologies if I missed anyone. And thank you to the Piranha’s who came out in force and did a fantastic job on the weekend. Nearly every comment back about the race has mentioned friendly and encouraging stewards.
WELL DONE ALL ON A GREAT TEAM EFFORT
