Introducing our WhatsApp Community

As a member, you would have noticed some changes in how we are organising and managing our official WhatsApp groups. The biggest change is that we’ve incorporated our primary channels into one WhatsApp Community. The reason for this is to streamline our member communication, ensure access and awareness for all and reduce spamming yer mobiles!

The groups are designed to be topic-specific, so you can join all or as many as you like (some will be access controlled but not all!) Club-wide announcements will be broadcast through the communities default ‘Announcements’ group which everyone in the community will receive.

Below is an overview of the groups and their function:

PTC Training: The previous ‘PTC Announcements’ group has now become dedicated to official training related announcements, Sunday spins, swim gear, run meeting points etc.

PTC New to Tri: This group is a dedicated safe space for new members or those who are new to triathlon. Feel free to ask any questions here and get updates on new to try focussed events.

Piranha Marketplace: This group is am official platform to buy, sell, borrow or donate gear – reducing our footprint and making it easy for new members to access the sport through second-hand stuff.

PTC Cycle Leads: This group arranges and discusses groups and routes for our famous Sunday spins. It’s open to all, contains our rota and routes Google doc so if you’re interested, join and lead a spin!

PTC OW Swims: As OW season approaches this group will be used to arrange official OW swims as these can be condition and tide related!

Piranha Women: A group dedicated to the ladies in the club.

Groups subject to change. More official groups will come and go, race-specific groups etc. So if you have any thoughts or suggestions reach out to a community admin!

• What will happen to the groups I was in?

There will be no change to the groups you were in, you will notice they might have been added to the community and you are free to explore other official groups in the community.

• I was a group admin, have my rights changed?

No, we respect your rights! You will be able to continue to post and moderate in the group you were admin too.

• What’s the Difference Between WhatsApp Groups and Communities?

WhatsApp groups are standalone, whereas community provides a space to keep and manage related groups under one umbrella. The groups are managed by group admins whereas a community is managed by a community admin.

• What is an Announcement Group in WhatsApp Community?

The announcement group offers a space for community admins to send broadcast announcements to all the community members. The announcement group is automatically created when you make a community and it has the same name as that of your community.

• Can Members Join Other Groups in a Community?

Yes, the community members can request to join groups that they aren’t part of. Simply, tap on the group name under the Other groups section and hit the Request to join button.

• Can Community Members Invite Others to Join a Community

The community members do not have the privilege to invite others to join a community unless the admin has shared the invite link with its members.
