Best of luck John. It’s a non wetsuit swim and expected to be over 35 degrees! He certainly hasn’t had the luck of the Irish when it comes to racing Ironman on the continent.

I’ll be there! I’ll set up a facebook event for it too and invite Piranha’s and Belpark-onians.

Just so people are aware, the main reason for having this social with Belpark is to announce the winner of the Piranha v Belpark “face off” from Dunmore East / Hook or By Crook. After much auditing of the results (calculated by me) the results were eventually finalised late last week. The winning club will be announced on the night, a small trophy presented and there will also be prizes given for the winders in each of the categories that we competed against Belpark in. A reminder of those categories (and the points for each category which count towards the overall winning clubs) are:

    1.First woman to finish – 3 points
    2.First man to finish – 3 points
    3.Fastest female swimmer – 1 point
    4.Fastest male swimmer – 1 point
    5.Fastest female T1 – 1 point
    6.Fastest male T1 – 1 point
    7.Fastest female bike split – 1 point
    8.Fastest male bike split – 1 point
    9.Fastest female T2 – 1 point
    10.Fastest male T2 – 1 point
    11.Fastest female run split – 1 point
    12.Fastest male run split – 1 point
13.Average Points for all club participants [Based on NS scoring percentile rules but including CAT 1 athletes] – 5 points
14.Average Points for all women [Based on NS scoring percentile rules but including CAT 1 athletes] – 5 points
15.Average Points for all men [Based on NS scoring percentile rules but including CAT 1 athletes] – 5 points
    16.Lowest Average T1 & T2 times of all participants – 3 points

I just want to say a sincere thanks to everyone for the messages of congratulations through this forum, via Whatsapp and facebook. I really really appreciated them.

The race went better than I could have expected and I’m still on a high. Although I felt I could put each of those splits together on a very good day I didn’t in my wildest dreams think I would dip into the 9:30’s. I am in the midst of doing a race report so I’ll try get that posted up on the site soon.

Well done to Daniel too in Austria who has posted one of the fastest Piranha Ironman times. I thought I was the only Piranha over there doing the race so it was a pleasant surprise to see another Piranha trisuit out on the course.

And well done also to Niall “Awesomeness” McD on a great time on a much tougher Ironman course and in tougher conditions. I know Niall’s “A” race is going to be Ironman Barcelona later in the year and is well capable of setting a new Piranha Ironman record.

Well done to all the Piranha’s who competed at the weekend in Hook or By Crook. It’s one of the most well attended and most competitive triathlons in the calendar.

This race was also the Piranha v Belpark “face-off”. I will be crunching the numbers to see who won once I get the full results in Excel format from Sportstiming. I will post up here who won and when the prize giving will me. Anthony definitely has a prize anyways being the first male home from either club so Kudos to him!

38th overall – Ivan Eustace – 01:10:30 – 4th in age group, third Piranha and first triathlon in 2 years after an injury layoff. Just pipped his bro Stephen 🙂

    Top 3 female Piranha’s
23rd female – Linda CLARKE – 01:21:19 – 5th in age group Ages and fastest female swim bar one junior whipper snapper
    44th female – Siobhan FORMAN – 01:25:57 – 4th in age category

    Hi all

I have spent time over the last few months trying to organise accommodation in Kinsale that could accommodate a large group of us with no success. I did however today manage to find one place that could possible take all of us (c. 15) but it may not be to everyones taste as it is a hostel.

The name of the hostel is Dempseys Hostel Kinsale. The location looks great, the accommodation is cheap (€20 a night I believe) but it is obviously basic, you won’t have a single room, you may be in a bunk bed and you won’t get breakfast!

I have reserved a 4 bed room in the hostel which will cost €40 each for 2 nights. I’ve already paid a deposit for the room, so if some guys (or girls if you really want to!) want to book into the same room they can ring the hostel manager directly (Finola – 086 1098765) and pay her the €40 by credit card. She will keep the other beds in the room for the moment but not indefinitely.

Finola also has beds in girl and boys dorms so if you want to book into those now, I advise you ring her in the next 24 hours otherwise she will not keep them.

I’d really advise booking a bed now and I want to apologise for not getting better accommodation sorted. If anyone else has any idea’s please let me know as I wouldn’t mind forgoing my deposit to get us all into holiday homes on the beach!

Just for information these are the properties I checked in the Kinsale region. Some are totally sold out (as indicated below) or some just don’t have room to accomodate us all.

    Hi All

Some information on the race this weekend has been posted as a news story and is available at https://www.piranhatri.com/uncategorised/piranha-national-series-strategy-race-2/

The weather is looking nice for Saturday (16 degrees and little wind) so its sure to be a great day. There will be over 50 Piranahs racing so I would ask those finished first to hang around and encourage your fellow Piranhas who are finishing behind you. Remember there is a Piranha v Belpark Face Off and every position counts!

    Thanks

    Hi All

Weather is forecast to be amazing for Hook or By Crook so it promises to be a great weekend. I hope you are excited!

This is the list of 15 who I believe are staying down in the Sea Cliff houses in Dunmore East this weekend. There has been a bit of black market trading in beds for the weekend so the below may not be 100% accurate!

    Piranha Member Friday Saturday Note
    Marie Moran Yes Yes
    Antje Yes Yes
    Ger F Yes Yes
    Siobhan Yes Yes
    Catherine Yes Yes
    Laurajmoy Yes Yes
Anthony Mulholland Yes No Contact Steven Moody for Saturday bed
    Stephen Eustace Yes Yes
    Laura Coughlan Yes Yes
    Bernard Hanratty Yes Yes
    Jennifer Madden Yes Yes
Peter Sweeney Yes No Contact Giolla Carroll for Saturday bed
    Daireen Gill Yes Yes
    John Kearney Yes Yes
    Siobhan C Yes Yes

I believe there maybe a few beds free on the Saturday night so if you want to contact the Steven or Giolla they maybe able to help. Beds cost them roughly €40 per night just so you are aware. Also if anyone doesn’t think they can make it down Friday night, please post up here as there are a few people still looking for beds so you could recoup some cash!

I received an email from Trident Holiday homes this morning confirming some arrangements for the accommodation which is posted below. I have clarified / negotiated the following with the Property Manager, Maria Doherty, though:

    – At least 2 of the houses will be ready Thursday evening so if anyone wants to head down then they can. These houses will obviously be ready of an early Friday check-in either. If anyone is going down Thursday or early Friday, please contact Maria to confirm as per the instructions below
    – Check out on Sunday is usually 10am but Maria will allow you check out at 12pm instead. Please vacate the houses then and leave them as clean as possible as there are other bookings checking in at 4pm Sunday
    – The houses will be pretty sparse so I would advise to bring food for Friday evening, food for breakfast (including tea, coffee, milk, sugar), extra loo roll, chocolate and alcopops
    – I promised you were responsible adults so Maria will not ask for the €200 security deposit per house

    Some other points to note:
    – Each house has sleeps 5 with 1 Double, 1 Twin, 1 Single. I haven’t allocated people per house so I will let you figure that out as you are all grown adults
    – There is a couch if two people don’t want to share
    – Post race dinner and celebrations will be in the Spinnaker Bar at 7:30. Please don’t be late. I’ve reserved an area for 20 people. That should cover the above people and a few others who have emailed me separately expressing interest for this
    – I will not be going down to the race as I’ve a big weekend of training to do for IM Austria in a few weeks. If you need anything or need to clarify anything on the booking please don’t hesitate to contact me

Think that covers most things. Post up with any questions or contact me directly.

    Thanks

    Will

I’ll probably go for Ironman again next year (depending on IM Austria goes this year!). I’d probably have a preference for Frankfurt (European champs) and after that I would probably choose either Sweden, Copenhagen or Austria again. I’d be tempted to go back to Roth as well – it couldn’t be as hot as 2014 I’m sure!
