HughParticipantHey Paddy,
I went with Multitrip.com. You need to choose Sports & Activities “Grade 2” to cover triathlon (it defaults to “Grade 1” in the default quote it shows… click on the ? beside “Sports & Activities” to see what is covered by each grade).

Please be mindful DCT Registration Team you are required at the Garda Boat Club from 10.00am and will not be able to squeeze this little 10 miler in on Sat, August 23rd.
Thanks
Bernard.
Good point Bernard! 🙂
HughParticipantYup 🙂
HughParticipantEntry for the 10 Miler in the Phoenix Park closes this Sunday 10th August!

http://dublinmarathon.ie/enter-race-series/” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;€35 for both the 10 miler and Half-Marathon (or €20 individually).
HughParticipantHey John,
I’ve got an air compressor that plugs into a car cigarette lighter (typically used for inflating a car tyre). I’m going to do the 10 mile race in the Phoenix Park first on Saturday 23rd and then come down after so I’ll give it to someone to bring down.
(obviously if someone has one that plugs into a mains, that might be more convenient 🙂 )
Hugh
HughParticipantHey folks,
Have discussed with Ellen & Tadhg. So there’s two options for people. Bernard Donne in Trinity or Sean in My Health Matters. Ellen will post up about Sean in My Health Matters (and to organise a group discount), and I’ll provide details on Bernard Donne.
Differences about Bernard Donne in Trinity:
– This is a longer test – taking approximately 2.5 hours.
– More invasive test – takes blood samples while you run on a thread-mill (versus using a gas mask only).
– It’s a more expensive test – €60 (versus €55 or less for Sean in My Health Matters).
– Less commercially biased and only available during the day (versus Sean will who accommodate evening bookings and provide a group discount). If you want to arrange a test send an e-mail to bdonne@tcd.ie with the following:
Age
Health status
Sport
Competition level
Recent PB
Number of training sessions per week
How is training intensity controlled. He *can* be pretty poor on responding to e-mail, so include on your first e-mail what mornings or afternoons you would be available for testing (where you’re not training the day before and resting up).
Have fun!
Hugh
HughParticipantHey Tadhg,
Thanks for posting up about it 🙂 As you know – I’m a “Yes” for the marathon – have signed up already. It only gets more expensive as the time draws closer, so get your registration in now! http://dublinmarathon.ie/” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
I’ve done lactate testing before with Bernard in TCD. Cost €60. There wouldn’t be any bulk discount available, and as far as I know he only does tests during the day (my one was at 9am on a Monday). But it is a very thorough test – taking blood samples while you run on a threadmill, and then he prescribes a very specific set of heart rate zones for you to train in.
HughParticipantWith the good weather at the moment, they are expecting to sell out and there may not be that many places available on the night! If possible, register online today! (they were at two thirds capacity about 4 hours ago).
HughParticipantThanks for the update Ciara! And good luck to the training committee (Ciara, Owen, Bob) in finding a facility at such short notice, thanks for the hard work.
HughParticipantBest of luck boys and girls! Kick ass 🙂
HughParticipantGiven the fun we had trying to calculate how our 10k paces translated to a per 400m timing (in terms of seconds), see below for a quick guide!
[attachment=0:3pnpzrju]400m Pace.png[/attachment:3pnpzrju]
Note that your 10k race time of 50 minutes does not translate to a 25 minute race time for 5k, instead you’d be targeting a race time of 24 min 05 seconds (see http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;). So your 10k pace would be 120 seconds per 400m, and then your 5k pace would be 116 seconds per 400m.
HughParticipantGood stuff Bernard! See you there for a drink or two 🙂
HughParticipantFrom Susan in Shadow:
All orders for Piranha Order 3 are now dispatched as per the delivery method selected and can be picked up in Swimkit from now or will be due for delivery tomorrow if courier was selected.
HughParticipantHey Derek, I checked earlier today with Shadow and Susan said:
All is on track – the polos / athletic kit is being shipped today for delivery next week and the rest of the kit is being delivered on the 2nd. It should be out in Swimkit by the 3rd, all going to plan.
