Hello!
I’ve randomly discovered an interesting race off the coast of northern Italy in Bergeggi called “swim the island” http://www.swimtheisland.com/. The title says it all (you swim from the coast around an island and come back).
There are four main races on the Sunday 11: Short (1800m), Main (3500m), Long (6000m), Combined (1800+6000). There are also shorter races on the Saturday.
It’s on the weekend of October 10-11 and might be interesting for those swimmers out there who think Triathlons favour good cyclists too much 😉
Also, no crazy planning with shipping bikes as it’s swim only 🙂
Judging from the website/pictures it looks like a well organized event! Has anyone heard of it before?
I’ve had a quick look at flights/accomodation/transport:
-Flights: closest airport with direct flights from Dublin is Nice(yes the french city). From there it would be 1h:40 by car. These flights are in the middle of the day so for the sunday race one would need to arrive on friday or saturday and then leave on monday. Approx cost 100 euros both ways.
– Accomodation: a hotel seem to be on average 50eur per person per night
– Transport: the organization of the event has a partnership with a company that organises shuttle services from Nice airport but if going in a group, renting a car might be cheaper
It’s just an idea (I’m not committing to it) but I want to hear what people think of it.
Cheers,
Marco
