Greetings Piranhas,
Please see the communication below from Triathlon Ireland about the upcoming training courses for Technical Officials: they are ALL before Christmas (sorry to give the festive season its first plug of the year!). Please note that if you are already a TO but did not attend a refresher course this season, you need to attend one of these. Also, anyone interested in taking on the role of a Technical Official should attend one of these courses. Being a TO offers a new insight into the workings of a race, gives you an opportunity to familiarise yourself with the rules and regulations surrounding TI and allows you to make a big contribution to Piranha Triathlon Club. Any club that wants to run a Triathlon Ireland sanctioned race (think DCT!) MUST provide at least two technical officials for other races during the year. So becoming a TO is a great way for you to volunteer for the benefit of the Club. There are a number of Piranhas who quietly take on this function on behalf of the Club and it is much appreciated. It is also a good way to keep in touch with triathlon and the Club for anyone who is taking a break from competition for whatever reason: injury, work commitments preventing training, new arrivals, etc. so please think about whether you can take this on. It’s a bit like doing a race in terms of time commitment but without all the blood, sweat and tears! And who knows, you may be able to disqualify your Club mates if they are mean to you during training!
Paul Curtayne is one of our most experienced TOs and I’m sure he will be willing to talk through what is involved if anyone wants to know more.
Cheers,
Phil … now … please read on …
Dear All,
For the upcoming race season of 2016, to ensure the safety and fairness at all races, Triathlon Ireland will be running 8 full and refresher Technical Official Courses between now and December. We are planning to hold 8 free training sessions in Cork, Galway, Armagh, Nenagh, Antrim, Athlone, Dublin and Sligo.
Please note that these will be the only Technical Official training courses being run for the 2016 race season. Anyone can attend and it is free to both TI members and non TI members.
Training Requirements
Technical Officials, who did not attend one of these training courses held by TI for the 2015 season, must attend the training to be qualified in 2016.
Technical Officials who did attend a training held by TI for the 2015 season, are welcome to attend a course, or one of our refresher courses if they wish, though this is not a requirement.Cost of Courses
Free! Includes course materials and lunch.
Please note, all personal expenses relating to accommodation, travel and food are not eligible to be recuperated from Triathlon Ireland.
How to Register to Attend a Training Session
