Hello All,
Tomorrow we meet at Westwood at 8.20am for an 8.30am departure.
Group 1 will be doing a route (approximately 50km) that will head to North County Dublin with Bike Lead John Lyons.
Group 2 will be doing a route (approximately 60km) that will also head to North County Dublin with Bike Lead John Clarke.
Remember that Groups are distinguished by distance and pace. This news story from last year explains the cycle group structure: 2016-17 Cycle Programme. If there are members who wish to do a longer/faster paced cycle than Group 2, please separate from G2 early so as not to tire-out (and intimidate!) those who are new to Group 2 :o))
Please remember good bike discipline:
** There is one cycle lead – and that person is responsible for the route.
** Tight two by two groups, with regular up-and-overs and with a single-file transition are the hallmarks of a disciplined cycle group. No “half wheeling”!
** Each group has a target average speed – this should be maintained. Surges in speed (lead from the front) leads to a dragging-out of the group and members get left behind.
** Traffic lights must be obeyed – pedestrian and traffic!
** Groups should not break-up on the flat. If they do, then they should re-group as soon as reasonably practicable.
I’m signing off today as Bike Captain. Thank you to the Bike Lead volunteers and the members for all for your support. The baton will be taken by Brianne Mulvihill and John Kearney who will be in due course about next year’s programme.
Have a great cycle.
Bernard
