It was off to Lanesborough, Co. Longford, for the latest round of the National Series, where 500 athletes competed in the NS sprint race. Jacqui Dunphy again led the Piranha women home, while also finishing in the top ten women. Nicola Hickey-Crowe and Siobhan Duggan were the next from the club ladies to finish. Kevin Beades raced well to record his first top 10 finish in an NS race, followed by Cathal O’Sullivan, who is having a strong season, and Sean Barry, both in the top 15 overall.
There were some good age group performances, including first place positions for Cathal O’Sullivan and Rob Keenan. Richie Dooley showed his true abilities, safely navigating his way through the challenging turns on the straight out and back course, while 55-59 AGer, John Lyons, managed to ‘gramp’ a few more victims!
There is a break until our next NS strategy race, Belfast Titanic, in early September, although there are of course, many other races in the interim in which Piranhas can chase points.
