Over 40 Piranhas headed on a daytrip to Carlow for Tri795’s sprint triathlon, the first major triathlon of this year. Conditions were windy, affecting all three legs, but that didn’t stop all our Piranhas crossing the line in under two hours just before the heavens opened.
Michael Barry led them, with Killian Nolan not far behind, both placing in the top 15 men overall. For the women, Jacqui Dunphy was first home, very closely followed by Shannon Kelly, both in the top ten women overall. Shannon Kelly and John Wallnutt won their age groups, while others also placed well. Many Piranhas made their triathlon debut, the first of many, no doubt. The other noteworthy sight was that of water-based triathlete, Guy Molyneux, running on dry land!
Next up in four weeks on the club’s NS calendar is Westport, where new challenges and a weekend away await. Some of you might have been disappointed, but there’s always something positive to take from any race if you look hard enough, while for those happy with their Carlow outing, keep on trucking!
