Club championships update
Current standings
Mens
1st Piranha 2611pts
2nd Belpark 2552 pts
3rd Nass 2486 ptsWomans
1st Belpark 2417 pts
2nd Piranha 2367 pts
3rd Wicklow 2298 ptsMixed
1st Piranha 2589 pts
2nd Naas 2556 pts
3rd Belpark 2531 ptsAs you can see it is all very tight and we only have 5 races left. We could see a change of positions after DCT with so many Belpark members taking part. The men’s team still have the ability to improve their overall score and with only the top 6 men to count there is a mighty battle for places 4,5 and 6. Currently, we have 11 members in with a chance of securing a top 6 finish in the team so the competition is hot. Our current top 6 are Killian, Ivan, Cathal, Niall McD, Alex and Rob closely followed by Richie, Sean Barry, Kev and Ross with 3 races completed and James Hoare, Mike Barry and Dave Cahill with 2 races completed. I would guess about 2680 pts should see us hold our title but it’s hard to know. Belpark has a few big scores sitting on 3 races so it will get close.
In the Women’s team we are just 50 pts behind the leaders but have closed this gap since the last report and I feel we can catch and pass Belpark over the next few races. Shannon tops the ladies standings after a slow start to her season and is closely followed by Claire Gorman, Martina, Antje, Audrey Phelan and Marie Moran making up the rest of the team. We also have a number of ladies who have only 3 or 2 races completed and based on their averages so far they will force themselves into the team. Siobhan Duggan ( 2races), Roisin Pakenham ( 2 races) Siobhan Foreman (1 race) Nicola HickeyCrowe (1 race) Jacqui Dunphy (1 race) will increase their points to push them into the team and the team into 1st place. If Siobhan F, Jacqui and Nicola complete their 4th race this should see the ladies points total improve by about 170 pts which would put them in a very strong position.
As many of you will know we won the men’s, Ladies and mixed team awards last year. What is fantastic to see is the amount of new names in the top 10 pushing for a place on the team.
No matter if you are top or bottom of the list get out there and race and get your 4 races done, it makes all the early mornings and training session worth it. So far we have had massive numbers racing this season. There are not too many races left, so we hope to see many Piranha’s racing Belfast ( still open) Port Beach ( still open), Lost sheep ( closed) and Moby Dick (open and last race of the year).
Best of luck and remember to be Hungry for more POINTS !JW
