Swim Ireland are delighted to invite you to the launch of our Irish Sign Language Swimming Videos on May 31st at the Deaf Village Ireland, Cabra.
There is a long history of deaf participants in our sports with a number of swimmers and coaches excelling. As the Irish Sign Language is not known by many people in the country, members involved in our swimming, open water and water polo events often have a challenge communicating with the many deaf participants taking part alongside them.
In Partnership with the Irish Deaf Society and with funding from the Department of Justice and Equality, Swim Ireland have created an Introduction to Irish Sign Language using videos and information sheets to inform all Swim Ireland members of the common phrases that they can use to help communicate with other deaf members in our community.
The following videos will be launched on May 31st.
• Handy Teaching Points – 4 short videos showing Irish Sign Language for the main teaching points for all 4 strokes
• Numbers, weather, colours, conversation for swimmers
• The rules and introduction to Leinster Open Sea races
• Information for first time Open Water Swimmers
We hope to see you all there.
Kind regards,
Carol
