    Dear Piranhas,

In order for a Triathlon Club to have a race sanctioned by Triathlon Ireland it must provide a minimum of two members who are prepared to train and officiate as Technical Officials in at least one race that is NOT organised by their Club – for every additional race the Club wants to run, two further TOs must be provided. A number of Piranhas have trained and served as TOs in the past and the time has come again to ask for volunteers for the 2015 season. If you have no experience, you will be asked to attend a FREE training course (see below) and if you have acted as a TO before (but did not attend a course in 2014) you will be asked to attend a FREE refresher course (also see below). We have come to rely on certain dedicated Piranhas in the past to take on TO duties and we would like to broaden the pool this year and share the duties around.

This is your opportunity to give something back to the Club by allowing DCT to be sanctioned as a race and to give something back to Triathlon in Ireland, a sport that we all enjoy (at least some of the time!). Training as a TO will also increase your knowledge of the rules of Triathlon and will enhance your enjoyment of the sport. You will also have the opportunity to see how a race is run from the sharp end.

Please can I ask you to consider putting your name forward to act as a TO in 2015? You will not be able to officiate until you have attended a course – the Dublin course is 7th February – but you will be able to put yourself down for races when Triathlon Ireland send out the list of races for which TOs are required. It is best to act quickly and put your name forward now as the bigger and/or more accessible races tend to be snapped up first. Please note that races include Duathlons and Acquathons – they all count.

Please let me know if you are willing to go forward either for the first time or again and I will ensure that Triathlon Ireland are notified. You should also notify Ti yourself if you wish to attend a course. I have copied the detailed Triathlon Ireland announcement below so that all information is available here. Please refer to the TI website if you wish, as well.

    Thanks,

    Phil

    Technical Official Training

Triathlon Ireland will be running 8 full and refresher Technical Official Courses from now through to February 2015. For locations and dates, please read on.

For the coming race season of 2015, to ensure the safety and fairness at all races, Triathlon Ireland will appoint at least one Technical Official to each race at the start of the race season. In order to accomplish this, we will be working closely with our clubs, to draw on the experience and knowledge of both current and former triathletes who will take on these roles.

We are planning to hold 8 free training sessions from now through to February 2015 in Cork, Galway, Monagahn, Nenagh,Antrim, Wexford, Dublin and Sligo.

Please note that these will be the only Technical Official training courses being run for the 2015 race season.

    Who Can Attend these Courses?

Anyone can attend and it is free to both TI members and non TI members.

    Training Requirements

Technical Officials, who did not attend one of these training courses held by TI for the 2014 season, must attend the training to be qualified in 2015.

Technical Officials who did attend a training held by TI for the 2014 season, are welcome to attend a course, or one of our refresher courses if they wish, though this is not a requirement.

Details of courses and refresher courses are detailed below.

Just a reminder that we are seeking volunteers to fulfil a TO role on behalf of the Club per the above post.

I’ve sent Julie email to request a place, a shame it clashes with Italian game though.
