Drogheda Triathlon Club are hosting their annual Duathlon again this year. The event is scheduled to take place on the 20th of March 2016 in the Monasterboice area with transition/registration located at the Valley Inn restaurant. Race registration is from 8:45am with race start at 9:30am.
The Duathlon comprises of a 3.45km run followed by a 16km cycle and finally another 3.45km run
This event, although challenging is a great opportunity for athletes of all abilities to get involved in sport or for those already involved to put their winter training to the test. A Duathlon is a great event in preperation for a triathlon, so for those who haven’t yet, but that are interested in taking on the challenge of a triathlon should be interested in our Duathlon. Relay teams can be organised where a team of athletes compete, each taking a different leg of the event.
The Duathlon is completely free of charge, a rarity in the worlds of duathlon and triathlon, notoriously pricey sports to be involved in. On the other hand for those athletes who are fed up of the financial toll that we’ve grown accustomed to, the event offers that bit of respite. On the day, however, there will be a collection buckets available and charities selected for competitors to donate to if the so wish.
There will also be paramedics on site in case of any accidents as the race does take place on open roads and accidents do occur, in the past St.Johns Ambulance have covered the event and thankfully have never been called into action.
The event is both challenging for the already endurance driven loonies and for those who wish to get involved, or for those who are merely curious.
