In the last 24hours we had a bike stolen from one of our club members, there are a few things I would advise people to do in order to help track down their bike in the event of theft.

Keep in mind if they want your bike they will make an effort to swipe it

1: keep a record of the bikes serial number (take a picture email it to yourself)
2: take a picture of the bike, do this each time you add something to your bike(wheels saddle ect)
3: Mark your bike in someway specific (scratch the paint work in a location perhaps under the bottle cage) record it, and email it.

    If the worst does happen

    1: report theft
2: Google search your bike make model (cervelo p2) and Dublin there is a chance you may find an advert from gumtree or donedeal report this to your local Garda station
3: (it is not advised to contact the seller) but If you make contact with the “seller” try and keep calm and remove emotion from the contact. If they smell something fishy they will most likely dump the bike.
4: if you arrange a meet, contact the Garda and try and get them to accompany you.
5: if the bike is advertised the cops may well be able to find out the seller from the site
6: Should the bike be recovered you will need to prove ownership which the first 3 points should help you with

Hopefully this advice is never needed but if it is it may help you have your bike returned

Some wise words but I would caution people on one part! If you find your bike online for Sale.
    DO NOT CONTACT THE SELLER.

Contact the Gardai, let them do the job correctly and professionally. Confronting the seller/burglar yourself will lead to all kinds of issues.
