Piranha Swim Coaching

Swim Training

Swimming is probably the hardest discipline for the beginner in triathlon to train for. Piranha swim training takes place in Westwood in Clontarf and is run by our two coaches Jack Meade and Chantel Gibney.

There are 5 different levels with each level having 2 sessions per week. The sessions you attend depend on which level you are at. The coaches will determine which lane you should swim in. The beginners sessions are divided between Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. The first intermediate group swim Tuesdays and Fridays with the faster intermediates swimming Tuesday and Thursdays. The advanced sessions are Thursdays and Fridays. Please do not attend more than your allocated two sessions as it leads to overcrowding in the lanes.

For anyone interested in other swim sessions or not able to make the Piranha ones, these might be of interest...

Glenalbyn Swimming Pool - Stillorgan

Mon, Wed., Thurs. & Fri. - 7.15 am - 8.25 am. Pool laned off & coach on deck. Accomodates ALL levels, 2 lanes do their own thing i.e. swimmers learning / improving swimming. Other lanes follow session.

Tues. - 7.00 am - 8.00 am. & Sun. 8.00 am - 9.00 am Glenalbyn Masters.

Very good session with Jack (coach). Again accomodates all levels. Jack has understanding of triathletes needs and is aware that there are triathletes in lanes. You can try out 3 Masters sessions paying as you go. For further sessions you pay a small fee (sth. like €30).

Check out the website for more details. There are also public sessions in Glenalbyn - check out the timetable for more info.

Westwood Masters Sessions Clontarf

There are sessions from 7-9 every Tuesday and Thursday evening which are free for Westwood members in Clontarf. 7-8 is a technique session with 8-9 being a more set bases session. These often include IM sets so be warned!

WestWood Leopardstown - Early Mornings

There is early morning masters session in WestWood Leopardstown at 6am until 7:15 am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Nickie, WestWood head swim coach, is the coach on deck and there are three adult lanes with a variety of swimmers.

Other options

Some members on the southside swim at Newpark School pool.

Members on the north and west of the city swim at the NAC and also in Westmanstown
